Chat Special - May 27, 2020

Today the Harvard Bookstore (virtually) hosted a chat between HCR and historian Lindsay Chervinsky, author of The Cabinet: George Washington and the Creation of an American Institution.

The video of the chat can be found here (it does require registration and a default donation of $1).

A few titbits: It seems that the Harvard Bookstore is doing virtual events virtually every night for the time being. Both ladies strongly endorsed (selective use of) twitter as a source for learning history. Three places to start are the feeds of historians Kevin Kruse and Adam Rothman, and the feed for "historians at the movies", in which on Sunday nights historians watch a movie together and tweet about it. Mount Vernon is closed, but its website is open, providing access to digital materials and podcasts. Besides all the rest of what she does, HCR also is part of a blog site specializing in pithy articles of about 1000 words or fewer.

The two historians answered a number of questions, but one point they made that I would like to stress here is in the "what you can do" category. They stressed it is important to learn and spread good information. They suggested gaining a familiarity with some of the sites and twitter feeds mentioned above, and then sharing the information contained therein.
